About the Journey
Japan as You’ve Never Known It
Our journey will be as diverse as Japan itself. We'll wander through narrow alleyways and vibrant boulevards, immersing ourselves in the bustling rhythm of Tokyo and Osaka, and the beauty of Kyoto. For contrast, we'll also visit ancient villages, including those once called home by the samurai.
Despite human presence, the well-preserved local nature will offer us stunning and awe-inspiring views. We'll roam through parks, forests, and mountains, witnessing Mount Fuji towering over the surrounding landscape. In the wilderness, we'll have close encounters with animals, from freely roaming deer to the famous snow monkeys. These creatures spend their days soaking in onsen hot springs, and we too will indulge in spa delights.

On our journey, we will visit many temples and shrines, but we will also marvel at futuristic buildings with unusual architecture. We’ll immerse ourselves in the enchanting Japanese fragrances, which we will even be able to 'listen to'.
The traditional local foods and drinks are aromatic too, and while we sample them, we'll also learn more about the traditions surrounding them.
We won’t miss out on shopping either, in both glamorous and unexpectedly unique stores. We’ll travel around the country on the famous Japanese bullet trains, but we’ll also slow down the pace to truly experience the richness of Japanese culture.
We don't know about you, but we can’t wait!

Itinerary
Day 1
Journey to the Land of the Rising Sun
Pack your bags, because we're about to embark on a journey to one of the most exciting, colourful, and beloved countries in the world: Japan! We'll spend the first day travelling – if we're going to another planet, we're going to have to cover a great distance.
Day 2
Overnight in a Capsule
In the evening, we'll arrive in Tokyo and settle into our capsule hotel. Don't worry – although many people think these spaces are claustrophobic, that's far from the truth. Besides, they are simply the best and most traditional way for a traveller to experience the atmosphere of Tokyo from the very first moment. On the first night, we'll rest, as we have an exciting programme ahead.
Accommodation and overnight stay at Nine Hours Akasaka Sleep Lab.
Food: breakfast.
Day 3
Traditions and Modernity in the Universe of Tokyo
On the very first day we truly explore Tokyo, there are many different things to see. From the cosy little streets of the Akasaka area in the morning, we will slowly move on to the bustling Shibuya. This commercial, financial, shopping, and party district is famous for having the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world. And here we'll enjoy
our morning coffee and tea. We'll visit one of the most famous cafes in the neighbourhood, and the tea will be an experience in itself. We'll head to the Sakurai Tea Experience, where during a guided tour, we'll discover many traditional teas
and the methods of preparing them.
In the late afternoon, we'll head to the beautiful Yoyogi Park and Meiji Shrine, to explore them just as the sun is setting.
At the end of the day, we'll make our way to the popular Shinjuku, where we’ll savour traditional ramen in the narrow streets of this maze-like district.
Accommodation and overnight at Nine Hours Akasaka Sleep Lab.
Food: breakfast.
Day 4
Something for everyone in the Japanese capital
Our second day in Tokyo will be no less exciting than the first. This time, we'll start the morning in one of the city's main shopping areas – 'Ginza'. You'll find everything there – from Kit Kat shops to high fashion and souvenirs from the famous animation film studio 'Ghibli'.
A little explanation is needed here. You might be wondering what's so interesting about chocolate bar shops and why they are such an attraction. Well, in Japan, Kit Kat is more than just a chocolate bar. It’s not just about the Japanese showing unparalleled creativity in offering it – with flavours (over 300 varieties since the start of the century, most unique to the country) and packaging. The main reason for their obsession with Kit Kat is... its name. In Japanese, it's pronounced 'Kito Kato' – very close to the phrase 'kito katsu', which can be translated as 'you will surely win'. So, this modest dessert from other parts of the world has become an incredibly popular good luck charm in Japan. It is often given to students before exams, and they don't eat it until their exam has been successfully passed. 'Ghibli', on the other hand, is a true symbol of Japanese anime, with a significant contribution from one of its founders – the legendary animator and director Hayao Miyazaki. Five of the studio's feature films are in the top ten highest-grossing Japanese animated productions.
After the morning in 'Ginza', we'll head to the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, which we'll explore just before lunch. After lunch, we'll slowly make our way to the traditional district of 'Asakusa' and its central temple – 'Senso-ji'. This is the oldest and perhaps the most important temple in the entire city. We'll pass through the Thunder Gate, amidst fragrant incense sticks wafting around, before we explore the temple itself.
In the late afternoon, we'll see if the weather allows us to fit in the exciting district of 'Akihabara', home to people from all walks of life with diverse interests. This place is a paradise for anyone who has ever liked Japanese anime. Finally, we’ll head to the Tokyo Skytree – the tallest building in Japan, the tallest TV tower in the world, and the second tallest structure in the world after the 'Burj Khalifa'. From its 634 m height, it offers perhaps the best view of all Tokyo, and we’ll see it just as the sun sets. After that, we have a free evening in 'Shibuya'.
Accommodation and overnight stay at Nine Hours Akasaka Sleep Lab.
Meal: breakfast.
Day 5
By bullet train to Kyoto via Kamakura
On the third full day of our stay in Japan, we will finally leave the exciting Tokyo. Our ultimate destination is the beautiful Kyoto. On this day, we'll get acquainted with the famous Japanese bullet trains, speeding along at over 300 km/h!
Before reaching Kyoto, we have to stop at a very important station along the way: Kamakura. In addition to being Japan's ancient capital, this coastal city is filled with shrines and temples of all kinds. Perhaps its most famous feature is the giant Buddha statue and the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
After enjoying the beauty of Kamakura, in the late afternoon, we'll head towards Kyoto. By sunset, we'll visit the famous Kiyomizu-dera Temple, offering a view of the entire city.
Accommodation and overnight stay at YUKARI KYOTO.
Food: breakfast.
Day 6
Kyoto
Kyoto has so much to explore. And perhaps the best way to start our morning is with gold. From the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto, we'll head to the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, where we'll watch the morning's golden light filtering through the leaves.
After lunch, we'll head to Yamada-Matsu, a traditional incense shop, where we'll partake in the practice of 'listening' to scents. During this process, we will be able to distinguish the different aromas, elements, and abilities of
traditional Japanese incense. They are an important part of the local culture and are used for various purposes.
In the late afternoon, we'll 'get lost' in the old streets of Kyoto, before heading to the famous and beautiful Fushimi Inari Shrine, where we'll pass through the bright red gates and make our way to the inner shrine to observe traditional prayer ceremonies.
We'll spend the evening wandering through the small side streets of Kyoto.
Accommodation and overnight stay at YUKARI KYOTO.
Food: breakfast.
Day 7
Miyajima Island
Our goal today is to reach what might be our favourite place in all of Japan – Miyajima. This small island is just an hour away from Hiroshima. We’ll get there using a combination of trains and ferries.
Besides the fact that Miyajima is home to one of the most famous floating torii gates in Japan, the island also has freely roaming deer that you can interact with, as well as hiking trails through the lush local mountains.
In the evening, we’ll catch the ferry back to the mainland and take the bullet train to Osaka, where we will spend the night.
Accommodation and overnight stay at UDATSUYA OSAKA.
Meals: breakfast.
Day 8
Osaka
Welcome to Osaka – one of Japan's most famous party destinations, but also a city filled with plenty to do beyond the nightlife.
This day will be the only one during our journey where guests will be able to decide whether to join the visit to Universal Studios and Super Mario World (entrance fee 100 BGN) or immerse themselves in the city's atmosphere.
With those who don't choose the roller coasters and thrilling attractions, we will head to the Osaka Castle, optionally drop by the local aquarium, and spend the afternoon exploring the city's food culture. In the evening, we'll visit the building with the extraordinary architecture, Umeda Sky, and try the city's famous takoyaki (octopus-filled dough balls) before diving into nighttime fun in the 'Umeda' area.
Accommodation and overnight stay at UDATSUYA OSAKA.
Food: breakfast.
Day 9
Spa Delights and Views of Fuji
This day will be in complete contrast to the previous one. Because it is dedicated to relaxation. In the morning, we will head to Hakone – perhaps the most famous spa destination in all of Japan. But before we get acquainted with the city's hot springs, we have a very
important stop – Kawaguchiko. The two-hour bus journey there is worth it, because once we arrive in this small town, we will take a chairlift into the mountains and look at Mount Fuji from one of the most suitable vantage points.
In the late afternoon, we will return to Hakone and indulge in the pleasure of one of the many traditional spa centres in the city, supplied by hot springs and known as onsen.
Accommodation and overnight stay at HAKONE SHIRAYUNOYADO.
Food: breakfast and dinner.
Day 10
Among the Snow Monkeys
This morning, we'll spend a little more time in the onsens of Hakone because later in the day, we'll envy the monkeys we can see in their own onsen.
After our morning in Hakone, we'll board the Shinkansen bullet train and head to Nagano, where we'll take a small hike to reach the famous snow monkeys, known for spending much of their day in the surrounding mineral waters.
After that, we'll board a local train and make our way to the town of Nakatsugawa - our home for the next two days.
Accommodation and overnight stay at The Ryokan o.
Meals: breakfast.
Day 11
On the Path of the Samurai
Today is dedicated to the Kiso Valley. It is perhaps most intriguing because of its many ancient villages nestled in the fields and forests. We will walk along the Nakasendo forest path, once an important trade route, to reach two of the most significant samurai villages in the area – Magome and Tsumago. These villages will transport us directly to another world, where there are no power lines or cars. We will spend the day marveling at these two perfectly preserved villages from the Edo period.
Accommodation and overnight stay at The Ryokan.
Food: breakfast.
Day 12
In the Forests of Niko
On our last full day in Japan, we will head to the shrines and temples of one of the most famous Japanese landmarks, included in the UNESCO World Heritage list – the city of Nikko.
To get there, we'll take the bullet train to Tokyo, followed by another train to Nikko itself. In the local forests, there are at least 103 buildings and structures worth seeing, and each one is absolutely breathtaking. We'll wander through the forest, slowly feeling as though we've been transported into a Miyazaki film.
We'll stay here until the late afternoon to fully appreciate our last brush with ancient Japan.
Day 13
Free Time in Tokyo
Our last day in Japan, naturally, will be in Tokyo once again.
Our flight is late in the evening, so we'll vote on our favourite neighbourhoods and split into groups to do some shopping, enjoy one last bowl of ramen, or simply wander around.
We bid farewell to Japan with a wish to meet again and board our flight to Bulgaria.
Day 14
Farewell Japan
We say さようなら(Sayōnara) for the last time with Japan, and with hope to meet again, we set off towards Bulgaria.

How much money should I carry with me?
This is quite subjective. Our programme includes only breakfast. Food in Japan isn't as expensive as people assume it is, and quite often the prices are similar to what we have back in Bulgaria.

November is one of the less touristy months, yet it's exceptionally beautiful. This allows us to experience Japan in a more authentic light and enjoy the autumn colours.

How much physical activity will this journey include?
We'll be doing a lot of walking during our journey, but we'll have just one hike, which will take place over the last few days and is at a beginner's level. Make sure to bring comfortable walking shoes!

WHY TRAVEL WITH US?
Who are we?
Panic Frame & Travel is not a commercial travel agency. We don't offer you tranquility, tickets, or accommodation in an all-inclusive hotel with white tablecloths. We see ourselves as Tarzan tourists, organizing journeys to hard-to-reach places, encountering wild nature, and traveling by campers, catamarans, off-road jeeps, and even helicopters.
