About the Journey
Japan as You’ve Never Known It
Our journey will be as diverse as Japan itself. We will weave through small alleyways and bustling boulevards, guiding us through the fast-paced rhythm of Tokyo and Osaka and the beauty of Kyoto. But for a touch of contrast, we will also encounter ancient villages, including those once home to samurai.
The remarkably preserved nature despite human presence will offer us splendid, yet dizzying views. We will wander through parks, forests, and mountains and witness Mount Fuji dominating the surrounding landscape. In the heart of nature, we will have close encounters with wildlife—from freely roaming deer to the famous snow monkeys. These monkeys soak in hot onsen springs all day long, and we will indulge in spa pleasures ourselves.

Along the way, we'll visit many temples and shrines, but we'll also marvel at futuristic buildings with unusual architecture. We'll immerse ourselves in the enchanting Japanese aromas that we can even 'listen' to.
The traditional local foods and drinks are aromatic too, and not only will we taste them, but we'll also learn more about the traditions behind them.
We won't skip shopping in glittering but also very unconventional stores for our senses. We'll speed through the country on the famous Japanese bullet trains, but also slow down to truly feel the richness of Japanese culture.
We're not sure about you, but we can't wait!

Itinerary
Day 1
Journey to the Land of the Rising Sun
Pack your bags because we are about to embark on a journey to one of the most exciting, colourful, and beloved countries in the world: Japan! Our first day will be spent travelling – if we're heading to another planet, we must cover a great distance.
Day 2
Overnight in a Capsule
In the evening, we'll arrive in Tokyo and check into our capsule hotel. Don't worry – although many people think these spaces are claustrophobic, that's far from the truth. Moreover, they're simply the best and most traditional way for a traveller to feel the atmosphere of Tokyo from the very first moment there. We'll rest on the first night because an exciting program awaits us.
Accommodation and overnight stay at Nine Hours Akasaka Sleep Lab.
Meals: breakfast.
Day 3
Traditions and Modernity in the Universe of Tokyo
On the very first day we truly explore Tokyo, there's a lot to see. Starting from the cosy little streets of the Akasaka area in the morning, we'll slowly move towards the bustling Shibuya. This commercial, financial, shopping, and party district is famous for the busiest pedestrian crossing in the world. And here we will enjoy
our morning coffee and tea. We'll visit one of the most famous cafés in the neighbourhood, and the tea will be an experience in itself. We'll head to Sakurai Tea Experience, where during a guided tour, we'll be introduced to many traditional teas
and their preparation methods.
In the late afternoon, we'll head to the beautiful Yoyogi Park and the Meiji Shrine to explore them right at sunset.
At the end of the day, we'll make our way to the popular Shinjuku, where we'll savour traditional ramen amongst the narrow streets of this maze-like district.
Accommodation and overnight stay at Nine Hours Akasaka Sleep Lab.
Meals: breakfast.
Day 4
Something for everyone in the Japanese capital
Our second day in Tokyo will be no less thrilling than the first. This time, we'll kick off the morning in one of the city's major shopping districts - "Ginza". There, you'll find everything from Kit Kat stores and high fashion to souvenirs from the famous "Ghibli" animation studio.
A bit of explanation is needed here. You might wonder why chocolate bar shops are so fascinating and why they’re such a highlight. Well, in Japan, a Kit Kat is much more than just a chocolate bar. And it’s not only because the Japanese display an unparalleled creativity in offering them - both in flavours (over 300 varieties have been created since the beginning of the century, most of them unique to Japan) and in packaging. The main reason for their obsession with Kit Kat is… its name. In Japanese, it’s pronounced "Kitto Kato" - very close to the expression "kitto katsu", which can be translated as "you'll surely win". Thus, the humble dessert from other parts of the world has become an incredibly popular good luck charm on Japanese soil. It’s often given to students before exams, and they don’t eat it before passing successfully. "Ghibli" is a true symbol of Japanese anime, greatly contributed to by one of its founders - the legendary animator and director Hayao Miyazaki. Five of the studio’s feature films are among the top ten highest-grossing Japanese animated productions.
After the morning in "Ginza", we will head to the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, which we will explore just before noon. After lunch, we'll slowly move towards the traditional district of "Asakusa" and its central temple - "Senso-ji". This is the oldest and perhaps the most important temple in the city. We'll pass through the Thunder Gate, amidst aromatic incense, whose scent wafts around, before we explore the temple itself.
In the late afternoon, we’ll see if the weather allows us to include the exciting district of "Akihabara" in our itinerary, a home for people from all walks of life with diverse interests. This place is a paradise for anyone who has ever appreciated Japanese anime. Finally, we'll head to the Tokyo Skytree - the tallest structure in Japan, the tallest broadcasting tower in the world, and the second tallest building in the world after the "Burj Khalifa". From the 634-meter tower, perhaps the finest view of the whole of Tokyo can be seen, and we will witness it just as the sun sets. After that, we’ll enjoy a free evening in "Shibuya".
Check-in and overnight at Nine Hours Akasaka Sleep Lab.
Meals: Breakfast.
Day 5
Bullet train to Kyoto
On the third full day of our stay in Japan, we'll finally leave the thrilling Tokyo. Our ultimate destination is the beautiful Kyoto. On this day, we will get acquainted with the famous Japanese bullet trains, zipping along at over 300 km/h!
After checking into the hotel, we'll cross Kyoto to reach the foot of Kiyomizu-dera, where we'll immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of a traditional tea ceremony. From there, we'll climb to the temple to savor a breathtaking panorama of the city. We'll end the evening by the river that flows through Kyoto—sitting together like students, sharing bites and delightful conversations.
Day 6
Kyoto
Kyoto has a lot to see. Perhaps the best way to start our morning is with gold. From the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto, we’ll head to the famous Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, where we'll watch the golden morning light filter through the leaves.
After lunch, we’ll head to Yamada-Matsu, a traditional incense shop, where we'll take part in the practice of 'listening' to scents. During this process, we will distinguish between different aromas, elements, and abilities of
traditional Japanese incense. They are an important part of local culture and are used for a variety of purposes.
In the late afternoon, we’ll 'get lost' in the old streets of Kyoto, before heading to the famous and beautiful Fushimi Inari Shrine, where we’ll pass through the bright red gates and proceed to the inner shrine to observe traditional prayer ceremonies.
In the evening, we will spend time strolling through Kyoto’s small side streets.
Accommodation and overnight stay at YUKARI KYOTO.
Food: breakfast.
Day 7
Miyajima Island
Today's aim is to reach perhaps our favourite place in all of Japan – Miyajima. This small island is only an hour away from Hiroshima. We'll get there with a combination of trains and ferries.
Besides hosting one of Japan's most famous floating torii gates, Miyajima is home to freely roaming deer that you can interact with, as well as trails through the island's lush mountains.
In the evening, we'll catch the ferry back to the mainland and the bullet train to Osaka, where we'll spend the night.
Accommodation and overnight stay at UDATSUYA OSAKA.
Food: breakfast.
Day 8
Osaka
Welcome to Osaka – one of Japan's most famous party destinations, yet a city filled with so much to do beyond nightlife.
This day will be the only one during our journey where guests can decide whether to join the visit to Universal Studios and Super Mario World (entrance fee 100 BGN), or to immerse themselves in the city's atmosphere.
For those not choosing the theme park rides and thrilling attractions, we'll head to Osaka Castle, optionally stopping by the local aquarium, and we'll spend the afternoon exploring the city's food culture. In the evening, we'll visit the extraordinary architectured Umeda Sky Building and try the city's famous takoyaki (octopus-filled pastry balls) before indulging in nightlife around the Umeda district.
Accommodation and overnight stay at UDATSUYA OSAKA.
Food: breakfast.
Day 9
To the Mountains of Gifu
The morning in Osaka will be calm and unhurried. We will have time for coffee, a short walk, or simply to feel the city one last time before heading to the station.
From there, we take a train to Gifu Prefecture and the city of Nakatsugawa – a starting point for some of the most picturesque mountain routes in Japan. The evening will be quieter and preparatory, as tomorrow we are expected to embark on a long and beautiful journey.
Day 10
On the Path of the Samurai
Today is dedicated to the Kiso Valley. It might be the most intriguing due to its many ancient villages scattered across its fields and forests. We will walk along the Nakasendo forest road, once a vital trade route, to reach two of the most significant samurai villages in the area – Magome and Tsumago. They will transport us directly to another world, where there are no power lines or cars. We will spend the day marvelling at these two perfectly preserved villages from the Edo period.
Accommodation and overnight stay at The Ryokan.
Food: breakfast.
Day 11
Spa Delights with Views of Fuji
After an active day, we'll completely change the pace.
In the morning, we head toward Hakone – one of the most famous spa SPOTS in the country. We'll ascend to Lake Ashinoko, from where, on a clear day, one of the most beautiful views of Fuji unfolds.
The day will be dedicated to strolling by the water, tranquility, and relaxation. As evening falls, we'll pass through the silent forests around the lake, as the mountain gradually fades into dusk.
Day 12
A Stroll through Kamakura and the Coast
Today, we set off to the enchanting coastal town of Kamakura, nestled not far from Tokyo. But before that, we'll take a cable car that will lift us high above Ashinoko to enjoy one of the most breathtaking views of Mount Fuji in all of Japan up close.
Then, we'll descend back to the station and board the train for our short journey to Kamakura. Besides being the ancient capital of Japan, this coastal town is filled with shrines and temples of all kinds. Perhaps most famous is its giant Buddha statue, along with the Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine.
Day 13
In the Forests of Niko
On our last full day in Japan, we'll head to the shrines and temples of one of the most famous Japanese landmarks included in the UNESCO World Heritage list – the city of Nikko.
To get there, we'll take the bullet train to Tokyo, and then another train directly to Nikko. In the local forests, there are at least 103 buildings and structures worth seeing, each more stunning than the last. We'll wander through the forest as if slowly stepping into a Miyazaki film.
We'll stay here until the late afternoon to fully appreciate our final brush with ancient Japan.
Day 14
Free Day in Tokyo
Today is an open day.
You can choose to lose yourself in the neighbourhoods of Tokyo, do some shopping, visit a museum, or simply sit in a little café and observe the rhythm of the city.
For those interested, your guide will take you to some of their favourite neighbourhoods that aren’t included in the official programme – SPOTS that show Tokyo beyond the clichés.
Day 15
Farewell, Japan
We say さようなら (Sayōnara) to Japan for the last time, with hope to meet again as we set off towards Bulgaria. We return home with more stories than photos, and with the feeling that we've experienced something truly real.
* Panic Frame & Travel reserves the right to adapt and change the program according to changes in accommodation conditions, climate, and other factors that require it.
WHO WILL BE YOUR GUIDE?

Martin Grahovski
Martin's love for travelling began in two pivotal moments during his student years – hitchhiking thousands of kilometers across Europe and his first trip to Japan at the age of 22, where he spent a month conducting interviews with former Yakuza members, undercover detectives, and journalists for his thesis.
These utterly diverse experiences have taken him to over 50 countries around the globe in the past decade and shaped his interest in human stories of survival and beauty, told through documentary filmmaking. Although he has travelled everywhere, Asia remains closest to his heart, and the tours he leads for Panic are a blend of the history of SPOTS, his personal adventures, and the art of getting lost in the best possible way.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Is something unclear?
+359 887 293 757
Is it safe to visit Japan?
Absolutely! Japan is one of the safest countries in the world. You can wander anywhere at any time of the day without worry. The people are incredibly polite and helpful.
What documents do I need for Japan?
No visa is required, only an international passport with validity of at least 6 months after the end of the journey.
How much physical activity will this journey include?
We'll be walking a lot during our trip, but we'll have only one hike, which is in the last few days and it's suitable for beginners. Bring comfortable walking shoes!
How much money should I carry with me?
This is quite subjective. Our programme includes breakfast only. Food in Japan is not as expensive as people tend to think, and very often the prices are similar to those in Bulgaria.
What's the weather like in Japan?
Four Seasons. Spring (March-May): 10-20°C, cherry blossoms bloom (late March to mid-April). Summer (June-August): hot and humid, 28-35°C, rainy season (tsuyu) June-July. Autumn (September-November): 15-25°C, stunning fall foliage (koyo). Winter (December-February): 2-10°C in Tokyo, colder in the north. Southern Japan (Okinawa, Yakushima) is warmer and subtropical year-round.
What kind of luggage should I carry?
Considering that we will be travelling a lot by train, large suitcases should be avoided. The best option is to travel with a large hiking backpack or a small backpack and a suitcase.
Why are we venturing out in November?
November is one of the less touristy months, yet it's incredibly beautiful. This will allow us to experience Japan in a more authentic light and enjoy the autumn colours.
Can you get mobile service and internet access?
You can purchase a local map on site. There will be wifi available in the hotels.
Do I need to know basic phrases in Japanese?
Even though almost no one in Japan will speak to you in English, we won't have any issues communicating through Google Translate or hand gestures.
Can I take my drone?
To fly a drone in Japan, you need to apply for a permit at least 10 days in advance and follow their rules. Learn more here.
Ready for an adventure?

We see ourselves as Tarzan tourists, organizing journeys to hard-to-reach places, encountering wild nature, and traveling by campers, catamarans, off-road jeeps, and even helicopters.
