Land of Lost Cities, Enchanted Mountains, and Living Legends

Welcome to the heart of the ancient Inca civilization – a place where time hasn't just stopped; it seems to tell stories. Peru is not just a country but a treasure trove of wonders: from the mysterious Nazca Lines and the splendour of Machu Picchu to dunes, oases, and colourful mountains that appear to be painted by the gods.

But the true magic of Peru lies in its contrasts: majestic peaks and tropical jungles, modern cities and ancient sanctuaries, the raw nature of the Andes and the warmth of the local people.

This is a place where every step leads to a new discovery, every dish carries a taste of culture, and every smile reflects the strength of a people living in harmony with the spirit of the land. If you've ever dreamed of getting lost in a world of mysteries, myths, and mountains, Peru will welcome you as its own.

Is this journey meant for you?

Machu Picchu

The City That Time Forgot

Hidden high among the clouds, surrounded by mist, peaks, and mysteries, Machu Picchu is a place that is not just visited – it is felt. The climb to sunrise is like a journey through time – from the first rays of the sun that illuminate the ancient stone terraces to the moment when your gaze meets the legendary view of the citadel, embraced by mountains. With every step, with every breath, you understand why this is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Here, history is not written in books – it is etched in stone, woven into the moss on the walls, and whispered in the air. You will wander through temples, water channels, and secret staircases, created without a gram of mortar – so precisely that even today architects can only guess how. And if you choose to climb to the top of Huayna Picchu – you'll discover Peru from a new angle, one that will stay with you forever.

Landscapes That Seem Unreal

In a world full of selfie destinations, there are places that take your breath away not for the shot, but for the experience. The seven-coloured mountain – Vinicunca – rises like a giant palette, painted by nature itself with minerals, time, and wind. Climbing over 5,000 metres is a challenge, but the reward at the top is complete silence, a spectacular panorama, and a sense of sacredness that words can hardly describe.

Just an hour away lies the hidden gem – the Red Valley. No crowds, no noise – just the soft contours of hills reminiscent of a Martian landscape and the feeling that you've stumbled into another world. This day is not just a nature walk – it's a portal to a deeper inner experience.

Huacachina Oasis and the Desert Dunes

Adrenaline in the Sands of South America

Peru is not only mountains and archaeology – it hides one of its most unexpected landscapes deep in the desert: Huacachina – a small oasis surrounded by giant dunes and palm trees, with a lagoon reflecting the sunset like a mirror. You arrive and it’s as if you’ve stepped into a fairytale – or onto a film set, where you are the main character.

Here, however, tranquillity is just the beginning. You ride a buggy up the edge of sandy hills, glide down with a sandboard with your heart pounding, and sip on a pisco sour by the water as stars begin to dance over the desert. This is a place that simultaneously raises your adrenaline and soothes your soul – the perfect blend of adventure and magic.

Day 10

Climbing to Vinicunca and the Red Valley: The Colourful Wonder of the Andes

Our adventure begins at 4:00 am when we are picked up from our accommodation in Cusco. We travel for about an hour and a half by private transport and make a brief stop for a delicious buffet breakfast to gather strength for the trek.

We continue through Andean villages and valleys to the starting point of the route – Lakto (4,630 m). We set off on a scenic trail in the Andes with views of the sacred Ausangate peak. Along the way, we encounter locals and herds of alpacas, while our guide shares fascinating stories about the region and its traditions.

The toughest part is the final steep section before the summit, but the effort is worth it. After about an hour and a half, we reach Vinicunca – the Mountain of Seven Colours (5,100 m). We spend time at the top, soaking in the views, taking photos, and enjoying a light snack.

Then we head towards the impressive Red Valley – nearly untouched by tourism, with a surreal landscape.

Just a 25-minute walk separates us from a panoramic viewpoint offering a breathtaking view.

On the way back, we descend for about an hour, passing by herds of alpacas. Then, we head to a restaurant for a buffet lunch and return to Cusco, where our day concludes with a well-deserved rest.

Day 11

On the Road to Salkantay: Lakes, Peaks, and a Starry Sky

Our thrilling two-day adventure begins early in the morning with a pick-up from our accommodation in Cusco by our guide and driver. Our first stop is in Mollepata, where we have breakfast to start the day with energy. From there, we continue to Chayacancha (3,800 m) – the official starting point of the trek.

From Chayacancha, we set off on a scenic trail towards our camp in Soraypampa. This initial section is relatively easy and allows us to gradually acclimatise. The total length of the trek today will be approximately 12 km, divided into two sections. The first section is 7 km long and almost flat, with a total ascent of 100 meters. We follow an ancient Incan canal, surrounded by breathtaking Andean landscapes.

Our goal is Sky Camp (3,900 m), nestled under the snowy peaks of Salkantay and Humantay. Upon arrival, the camp team welcomes us, and we enjoy lunch amidst awe-inspiring nature. After a brief rest, in the afternoon we hike up to the incredible Humantay Lake (4,200 m), whose turquoise waters are nestled between the snow-capped peaks of the Andes. This hike is slightly steeper and 2.5 km long with a total ascent of 300 meters. With these 2.5 km each way, the total for the day reaches 12 km.

In the evening, we return to the camp for a delicious dinner under the stars, while our guide tells us about Incan astronomy. We then fall asleep in our cosy igloos with transparent roofs, gazing at the constellations.

Day 12

Climbing the Salkantay Pass

Today, after breakfast, we face the highest point of the trek – the Salkantay Pass (4,630 m), which we ascend via Salkantaypampa and a trail known as the 'Path of the Seven Snakes'. At the summit, we'll take time for photos and enjoy the breathtaking view. This trek is only for those who feel ready for another 7-hour hike with a total ascent of 700 meters. For those who prefer to stay at the camp, an alternative activity will be prepared for the day, or they will have the opportunity for free time.

Afterwards, we start descending through rocky terrain, where we'll encounter stone forests and majestic mountains. We have lunch at the camp, after which we head to the final point of the trek, from where we'll catch a ride back to Cusco.

Day 13

Two-day train journey, nature and magic

Our thrilling two-day adventure begins as we're picked up from the hotel and taken to the station in Ollantaytambo. Our train departs at 12:55 PM, so there's no need to get up early or rush. During the journey, we will pass through the breathtaking landscapes of the Sacred Valley of the Incas – mountains, rivers, agricultural terraces and more.

After about an hour and a half of travelling along the Urubamba River, we arrive in Aguas Calientes. Our guide takes us to the hotel, where we leave our luggage. Since there are no vehicles in the town, we get around on foot only.

Then we enjoy lunch at one of the best little restaurants, and the afternoon is free for strolling and relaxing. We can indulge in local cafes, streets adorned with sculptures, or choose from the following additional activities:

  • Alcamayo Waterfalls – a short 30–45 minute walk to a 30-metre waterfall in the jungle.

  • Thermal Springs – natural hot pools, perfect for relaxation before the big day.

  • Butterfly House – with over 100 endemic and 400 known butterfly species, just a 15-minute walk away.

  • Artisan Market – near the station, featuring crafts, clothing, and art from the region.

In the evening, we have dinner and our guide gives us the final instructions for the next day. We go to bed early, as we will rise before dawn.

Day 14

Today, we depart early to be among the first to enter Machu Picchu. After a 25-minute bus ride, we arrive at the entrance and begin a two-hour tour with our experienced guide. We visit the most significant areas: temples, squares, terraces, and dwellings.

Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham and is situated at 2,430 m amidst tropical forest, surrounded by magical nature. If we have pre-purchased tickets, we can climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for a panoramic view over the citadel.

After that, we return to Aguas Calientes, where we have lunch at our own choice (not included) and then board the train to Ollantaytambo. There, our transport to Cusco awaits us, where we return to the hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Day 15

Flight Cusco - Lima

After breakfast at the hotel, we'll make our way to the airport in Cusco and head back to Lima, where we'll have free time to buy souvenirs, explore alternative tours, and more. We'll gather for one final group dinner with authentic local cuisine.

The moment has come for the flight back to Europe. It will be long, but we'll be returning with a wealth of memories and unforgettable moments. Just enough time on the plane to scroll through your photo gallery and relive your journey through Peru.

Day 16

Adios, Peru!

We will land early in the morning in Madrid and have another day for ourselves. You can relax in a local café in La Latina, explore the souvenir shops, or return to Retiro Park for a final dose of peace and greenery.

If you have the energy – catch the sunset from the roof of Círculo de Bellas Artes and gaze upon the city, which is already becoming familiar to you. Last chance for tapas and a toast to the end of a great journey.

Day 17

Return to Bulgaria

The moment has come to return with a flight from Madrid to Sofia. The journey was long, eventful, and transformative – now it's time to rest, but Peru will stay with you for a long time. And the photo gallery? It will keep bringing you back to the most memorable moments of this adventure.

Day 14

Machu Picchu - one of the seven wonders of the world

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is something unclear?

+359 887 293 757

What health precautions should I take for Peru?

Consult with your GP at least a month before your journey. Your doctor will advise you on suitable preventive measures according to the route and altitude. At high altitudes (Cusco is at 3400 m), it's important to acclimatise gradually. Coca leaves help. Drink only bottled water.

What documents do I need for Peru?

Bulgarian citizens do not need a visa for a tourist stay of up to 90 days. You only need a valid international passport with at least 6 months' validity from the date of entry. It's wise to have a copy of your return ticket and reservation for the first night's stay – sometimes they ask for them at the border.

What kind of physical preparation is needed?

We recommend, in the weeks leading up to your trip, to take regular walks 2–3 times a week, preferably mountain hikes lasting a few hours and walking on slopes/stairs. Comfortable, well-worn shoes are essential.

Is there a risk from wild animals and danger from insects?

Peru is home to a rich biodiversity, and that's what makes it so special. In our itinerary, there are no unforeseen encounters with wildlife, each meeting is from a safe distance. In the Amazon, use repellent and long sleeves. In the Andes, there are almost no mosquitoes.

Which days involve long hikes and how long are they?

On days 11 and 12, longer routes are planned — approximately 12 km and 14 km. On the other days, we anticipate shorter and more leisurely walks.

What's the currency and how much money should I carry with me?

The local currency is the Peruvian sol (PEN). You can exchange euros or dollars on-site, and ATMs are available in larger cities. It's wise to have cash for local markets, tips, and smaller settlements where cards aren't accepted. How much money should you bring? It depends on your personal habits, but roughly around 200-300 euros for a week should be more than enough for food, souvenirs, and personal expenses.

Do we need to bring tents and sleeping bags?

No need. We provide tents and sleeping bags on site.

What's the weather like in Peru?

It depends on the region and altitude. Lima and the coast: 15-28°C, almost no rain. Andes (Cusco): dry season (May-October) 5-20°C, wet season (November-March) 7-18°C with frequent rains. Amazon: hot and humid year-round (25-35°C). The Salkantay trek passes through zones from 2000 to 4600 m, prepare for temperatures from -5 to 25°C in a single day.

Do we need to carry a mountain backpack during the hikes?

The backpack is optional. We recommend a lightweight, small daypack for:

  • a light jacket and raincoat

  • sunglasses and a hat

  • external battery (power bank)

  • high-energy food/snacks

  • insect repellent

  • personal hygiene items

  • a water bottle.

    • If you prefer to walk unburdened, our local guides have a small transport backpack (up to 5 kg) where you can leave items. They will be carried to the day's final destination.

Is there roaming and internet?

Roaming is available, but it's expensive. We recommend getting a local SIM card with internet or using eSIM from Europe – there is stable coverage in the cities and tourist areas. In the Amazon and high mountain zones, however, the internet is weak to non-existent – just as it should be when you're deep in the jungle or gazing at Machu Picchu.

Can I take my drone?

Yes, but with caveats. For hobby drones under 2 kg, a license is not required, but local rules must be strictly followed – flying over archaeological sites (such as Machu Picchu), in nature reserves without permission, and in populated areas is forbidden. If you want to film with a drone, we'll give you guidance on when and where it is safe and allowed.
