Why Kитай?
Empire, mountains, and megacities in one journey.
China is not just a country. China is a civilization gathered in one place, with layers upon layers built over millennia. Beijing welcomes you with the vastness of the Forbidden City and the serenity of temple gardens. Xi'an takes you back 2200 years in front of an army of 8000 clay soldiers, each with a unique face. Then comes Huashan, the sacred mountain that you climb by steps carved into the rock.
Zhangjiajie is something different. Stone pillars rising from the mist like a scene from a sci-fi movie. This is where James Cameron found the planet Pandora. We'll wander across it for two days.
And finally, Hong Kong. Skyscrapers that glow from dusk till dawn. Funicular to Victoria Peak. Light show from the deck of the Star Ferry. The contrast between the ancient north and the ultra-modern south is so stark that you feel like you're crossing from one era to another with every train.
16 days. 5 cities. Thousands of years of history packed into a journey that begins with the stones of the Great Wall and ends in the lights of Hong Kong.

China beckons if you're...
If history fascinates you as much as nature does, here you will find both on a scale you haven't seen before.
If you want to stand on the Great Wall when tourists have left and only the wind remains.
If you're shooting and looking for shots that seem impossible, Zhangjiajie will provide them.
If you love food and aren't afraid of the unknown, here every day is a new taste.
If you think that a single day can't include an ancient temple and a neon rooftop bar, Hong Kong will prove you wrong.
If you want a journey where the distance between 2000-year-old history and the future is just a train ride away.

Ancient Power
The Great Wall, when no one is around
We ascend a section of the Wall far from the tourist routes. The stones are rough, the steps uneven, and the horizon opens up in all directions. Something about the scale of this construction compels you to stop and be silent.
Built over 2,000 years, more than 20,000 kilometres long. We will see only a small part, but it is enough.
Another Planet
The Mountains that Inspired Avatar
Stone pillars rising hundreds of metres above the mist. Trails clinging to the edge of the abyss. A glass bridge 300 metres above the ground. A 326-metre lift glued to the rock face.
Two days in a national park that looks as if nature has decided to show what it can really do.
Stone and Faith
Terracotta Army and Sacred Mountain
8,000 clay soldiers, each with a unique face, buried for 2,200 years and accidentally discovered by a villager digging a well. A Muslim quarter where the streets are filled with the aroma of spices and grilled meats.
And the next day, Huashan. A sacred mountain with paths carved into the rock, temples perched on the edges, and views that will take your breath away.
Light and Elevation
Hong Kong, the city that never sleeps
Victoria Peak at sunset, when the city ignites below. Star Ferry across the harbour, as skyscrapers put on a light show. Street markets, dim sum for breakfast and rooftop bars with a 360-degree panorama.
The contrast between mainland China and Hong Kong is so stark that you feel like you're moving between two different realities.

What documents do I need for China?
For a journey to China, Bulgarian citizens need a valid passport (valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry) and a visa. The visa is obtained from the Chinese embassy in Sofia. The process usually takes 5-7 working days. We will send you detailed instructions and assistance for preparing the documents.
What is the process for obtaining a Chinese visa?
The visa for China is obtained from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sofia. Required documents: completed visa application form, photo, copy of airline tickets and hotel reservations (we provide these), copy of the passport. The fee is approximately 120 EUR. We recommend starting the process at least 4-6 weeks before your trip.
Is there internet in China? Do you need a VPN?
Yes, China does have internet, but access to Google, WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and most western apps is blocked by the so-called Great Firewall. To use them, you need to install a VPN app BEFORE departure. Once you arrive in China, you won't be able to download it.
In Hong Kong, there are no such restrictions and the internet is completely free.
We'll send you recommendations for reliable VPN apps before your journey.
What currency is used in China and how do I make payments?
The official currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY/RMB). In major cities, bank cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted in hotels and larger stores, but for markets, street food, and smaller establishments, it's good to have cash. In Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) is used and bank cards are accepted almost everywhere.
Currency exchange can be done at the airport or in banks. We recommend exchanging a small amount upon arrival.
What level of physical fitness is needed?
The journey includes walks of 3 to 6 hours per day on urban and mountainous terrain. The most challenging days are the ascent of the sacred Huashan Mountain (height 2100m, with a cable car covering much of the altitude) and the hikes in Zhangjiajie. No special alpine training is required, but a normal physical condition and a desire for walking are essential.
We recommend regular cardio activity at least 2-3 times a week in the months leading up to the trip.
What's included in the price of the journey?
The price includes: international flight Sofia-Beijing, domestic flights (Beijing-Xi'an, Zhangjiajie-Guangzhou), high-speed trains (Xi'an-Huashan, Changsha-Zhangjiajie, Guangzhou-Hong Kong), 15 nights in hotels, 15 breakfasts and 8 dinners, all entrance fees for sites included in the program, all transfers and local transportation, a Bulgarian-speaking guide throughout the journey, and medical insurance.
Not included: Chinese visa (~120 EUR), return flight from Hong Kong, meals not mentioned in the program, personal expenses, alcohol, and drinks.
What's the weather like in China in May?
May is one of the best months to visit China. In Beijing, temperatures are around 18-28°C with low humidity. Xi'an is similar, 16-26°C. In Zhangjiajie, it can be wetter and foggier (18-25°C), which actually makes the landscapes even more cinematic. Guangzhou and Hong Kong are warmer and more humid, 25-32°C, with the possibility of brief afternoon showers.
Layered clothing is essential due to the temperature difference between northern and southern China.
What is the difference between Mainland China and Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China with its own set of rules. Bulgarian citizens do not need a visa for a stay of up to 90 days in Hong Kong (unlike mainland China). The currency is different (Hong Kong dollar instead of yuan). The internet is open, with no need for a VPN. Bank cards are accepted everywhere.
When crossing from mainland China to Hong Kong, we pass through a border control similar to an international one.
Is the food safe? Are there options for dietary restrictions?
Chinese cuisine is diverse and delicious. The food in the restaurants and hotels we visit is safe. At street markets (like the Muslim Quarter in Xi'an), we recommend food that is freshly cooked and hot.
If you have specific dietary restrictions (vegetarianism, allergies), please let us know in advance, and we will arrange alternatives. In larger cities, there are plenty of options available.
Are vaccinations needed for China?
No mandatory vaccinations are required to enter China from Bulgaria. It is advisable to be up to date with your routine vaccinations (hepatitis A and B, tetanus). Consult your doctor or the National Centre for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases for the latest recommendations.
What's the deal with mobile networks and SIM cards?
We recommend getting a local SIM card or eSIM for China upon arrival, so you have mobile internet. Prices are affordable. Important: Mobile internet in China is also behind the Great Firewall, so a VPN is necessary on your phone as well.
In Hong Kong, you can use roaming or get a separate SIM card. There are no internet restrictions there.
Is there a language barrier in China?
The official language is Mandarin (Putonghua). In tourist areas and hotels, the staff usually speak basic English. In smaller places and markets, language might be a challenge, but not a problem, because you have a guide with you. In Hong Kong, English is widely spoken.
It's useful to have a translation app on your phone (download it before departure, as Google Translate is blocked in China unless you have a VPN).
Ready for an adventure?
China in May means a temperature difference of 15 degrees between Beijing and Guangzhou. Layered clothing is a must. In the north, it's dry and pleasant, while in the south, it's warm and humid. The mountains call for comfortable shoes and a raincoat.
Tick off the essentials from the list and make sure you haven't missed anything. Most importantly: install a VPN before departure.
