Why Costa Rica?
The pure joy of life in the oasis of biodiversity
Welcome to the Rich Coast, as the country's name translates. Once so named for its abundance of gold, today Costa Rica enjoys another, even more priceless treasure – its exceptional biodiversity. The country occupies just 0.03% of the Earth's land surface (it's half the size of Bulgaria), but is home to about 5% of all animal and plant species in the world. And perhaps this lush nature is one of the reasons why the local people are among the happiest on the planet.
Central to their philosophy is the concept of 'Pura Vida' (literally translated as 'Pure Life') – the idea of simple living, without stress, with a positive and relaxed attitude towards the world. Costa Ricans fully enjoy each day and use the phrase 'Pura Vida' in a variety of contexts – as a substitute for 'hello' or in response to the question 'How are you?'. Come to Costa Rica, to experience the pure joy of life among probably the richest nature you will ever encounter.
