What documents do I need for the Azores?
The Azores are part of Portugal. You can travel there with just your ID card.
Is there a risk from wild animals and danger from insects?
There is no dangerous wildlife in the Azores. There are hardly even any mosquitoes. The islands are green, tranquil, and safe.
Will I manage the hikes?
Most hikes are under 10km in length with low difficulty. If you need a break, you can skip any of the days with a program and relax, or take advantage of the additional activities the island offers.
What's the currency and how much money should I carry with me?
In the Azores, they use the euro. We advise you to prepare at least 200 euros for additional expenses. Most things can also be paid by card – it's not necessary to carry cash.
How will we get around the island?
We will be travelling in rented minibuses. Most journeys are within an hour's drive each way. Alternatively, if you need a ride, you can use public transport, a taxi, or the Bolt app, which works like Uber – offering convenient online ordering and payment.
What's the weather like in the Azores?
Oceanic climate, mild and wet all year round. Summer (June-September): 22-26°C, driest time. Winter (December-March): 14-17°C, more rain. The weather changes quickly, experiencing four seasons in a single day isn’t uncommon. Layers are a must. Ocean water temperature ranges from 17-23°C. Temperatures rarely drop below 10°C.
When can I sign up for the additional activities?
Signing up for these activities will be done during the journey. Payment for some of them might require cash in hand.
Is there roaming and internet?
Just like anywhere else in the EU, you can use your mobile plan here too. Most of the time you'll have coverage, except for some of the trails.
What's city life like in Ponta Delgada?
Ponta Delgada is the largest city on the island, offering bars, restaurants, shops, and parks. Yet, the city seems to snooze most of the time.
You'll find the most people at the mall :)
Shall we venture to the other islands?
Travel to the other islands is mainly by plane. Due to the region's unpredictable weather, we cannot guarantee favourable conditions for visiting. Additionally, options for accommodation, food, and transport are more limited there, which could significantly increase the cost of the trip.
São Miguel is the largest island of the archipelago and hosts the most attractions.
Can I take my drone?
Of course, we're bringing ours too :) The European laws and drone flight regulations apply in the Azores, and the views from above are even more stunning.
Ready for an adventure?
Signed up for the expedition but wondering what to pack? You can check off your gear here and ensure you're fully prepared.
Get ready with spring clothes, as the weather in Madeira might surprise us. Every day we'll head out in a T-shirt, but have an outer layer and raincoat at hand.
