Why Madagascar?
An Unconventional Africa
Following the division of continents in prehistoric times, Madagascar remained separated from Africa and India. This allowed local animals and plants to evolve in relative isolation, creating numerous species that are found nowhere else in the world. As a result, today over 90% of the flora and fauna in the island nation is endemic. It's precisely this unique natural wealth and diversity that we will encounter in its natural habitat, which is even more isolated — on a few small islands off the northwestern coast of Madagascar.
Due to its remoteness, Madagascar was not populated with humans until about 2000 years ago. The people now living on the island descended from Indonesians who arrived across the Indian Ocean. There are also Arabs and Africans who settled later. This diverse mix of people greatly contributes to the island's unique cultural practices.

About the Journey
The Island of Lemurs
The total duration of this journey is 9 days, 7 of which will be spent on the island of Nosy Be. It is located near the northwestern coast of Madagascar's main island and is the largest resort in the country. In Malagasy, its name means The Big Island, but over the centuries it has been known by various names, including The Scented Island.
However, we will also visit two more small neighbouring islands to encounter a wide array of local wildlife, among which the most famous are perhaps the untouchable lemurs, and more specifically – their black variety. Exciting 'meetings' await us in the waters of the Indian Ocean as well – we will have the chance to observe the giant (and completely harmless) whale sharks up close and even swim with them; we will also see other impressive marine creatures. Back on land, we will have the opportunity to marvel at the craftsmanship of local artisans and, of course, to acquire some of their most exquisite creations.
