Why Madagascar?
An Unconventional Africa
After the continents split in prehistoric times, Madagascar remained isolated from Africa and India. This allowed local animals and plants to evolve in relative isolation, creating numerous species that are found nowhere else on Earth. As a result, today over 90% of the flora and fauna in the island nation is endemic. It's with this unparalleled natural wealth and diversity that we will meet in its natural habitat, even more isolated—on several small islands off the northwest coast of Madagascar.
Due to its remoteness, Madagascar wasn't inhabited by humans until about 2000 years ago. The people now living on the island are descended from Indonesians who came across the Indian Ocean. There are also Arabs and Africans who settled later. This diversity of peoples greatly contributes to the island's unique cultural practices.

About the Journey
The Island of Lemurs
The entire journey spans 9 days, with 7 nights spent on the island of Nosy Be. Located near the northwestern coast of Madagascar's main island, it is the largest resort in the country. In Malagasy, its name means the Great Island, but over the centuries, it has been called by various names, including the Perfumed Island.
However, we will also visit two smaller neighbouring islands, to encounter a diverse array of local fauna, most famously the elusive lemurs, particularly their black variant. Thrilling 'encounters' await us in the waters of the Indian Ocean—where we'll have the chance to observe the gigantic (and perfectly safe) whale sharks up close and even swim alongside them, as well as encounter other impressive marine creatures. Back on land, there will be opportunities to admire the craftsmanship of local artisans and, of course, acquire some of their most exquisite creations.
