After being greeted at Da Nang airport and having lunch in a traditional local restaurant, we embark on a short journey to Hoi An to settle into our hotel. With a brief rest, wasting no time, we dive into our Vietnamese experience with a seven-hectare expanse of coconut forest. We'll immerse in the countryside's beauty, drifting in woven bamboo basket boats, learning to catch fish and crabs with local fishermen, and crafting toys from coconut palm leaves. For those craving more adrenaline, we can even race in the boats we're using.

Hardly catching our breath, we return to Hoi An to uncover the evening secrets of this ancient port town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The quaint alleys of the old town transport us back to a bygone Vietnam, peeking into the ancient houses and courtyards of the locals, weaving through vibrant artisan shops, stalls and the evening market's bustle until we reach the iconic Japanese Covered Bridge. To capture the essence of this almost untouched city of centuries, we can opt to sail in the characteristic gondola-like boats, enjoying the nightlife and illuminated facades from the Thu Bon River, releasing paper lanterns with wishes into the water, embracing local traditions. Food lovers can experiment with a direct treat from a street cart or dine in one of the riverside eateries, soaking in the whispering chatter of evening Hoi An.

Day 3

Island Cham

Today after breakfast, we embark on a true adventure. On the way to Cua Dai port, we'll make a stop to learn about the craftsmen's work as they carve statues in various shapes and forms from enormous blocks of marble. After this brief stop, we arrive at the pier where we board speedboats to ride the waves towards an archipelago of seven islands, named according to their shape or characteristics. They are called Lao (pear), Dai (long), La (leaf), Kho (dry), Tai (ear), Mo (tomb), and Nom (East wind). Our destination is Cu Lao Cham, home to around three thousand inhabitants along its shores. We land on Lang beach and set out to explore interesting sites like the shelter for boats in bad weather, the ancient Tay Tang Pagoda, and the Ong Temple. We'll traverse breathtaking natural scenery to reach Huong beach, where we can enjoy the crystal-clear waters, go diving, and explore the colorful fish and vibrant corals of the nearby coral reef. Those who prefer can simply relax on the white sands and indulge in a lazy nap. Lunch will be traditional local seafood. Refreshed and a bit weary from the sights, emotions, and swimming, we set off back to Hoi An.

Meals: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus, 1:00 hour each way

Day 4

Pottery Village Thanh Ha and the Sacred Land My Son

Our day begins again by water. We travel by boat to the traditional pottery village of Thanh Ha. We allow ourselves to be captivated by its winding alleys and charming pottery exhibition area. Skilled craftsmen immerse us in the craft of vase, jug, and plate making, drawing on five centuries of tradition. Anyone interested can join the process and create their own unique design piece from the brown clay sourced from the Thu Bon River.

We wash the clay from our hands and are already in the next boat, which will take us to the sacred lands of the glorious Champa civilization, specifically to its capital and religious centre – the My Son Sanctuary, a UNESCO site. We'll wander among the red stones of the historical and cultural ruins, remnants of long-abandoned towers and shrines dating from the 7th to the 13th centuries, nestled in a narrow valley surrounded by springs, mountains, and dense green jungle. The ruins of My Son may not be as grand and impressive as those of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, but their location and the small number of visitors create an atmosphere of mystery. After a late lunch in a local restaurant, we return to Hoi An, where in our free time we can watch the sunset and take a stroll through the picturesque streets of the old town.

Food: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus, 2:00 hrs

Day 5

Hoi An - Hue

This morning, we head north towards the only fully preserved capital in central Vietnam. Our journey will take us through the Hai Van Pass, approximately 21 km long. This is the natural boundary between Thua Thien-Hue province and the city of Da Nang, and one of the most picturesque roads through the hills in Vietnam. We'll stop for a break at Lang Co beach, with more than 10 km of long white sandy strip and blue sea water, a perfect spot for rest and photography. We will pause at the Thien Mu Pagoda, or the Pagoda of the Heavenly Fairy – one of the most beautiful and time-surpassing pagodas, which will captivate us with its stunning architectural structures meant for worship. After lunch, it's time to dive into the bygone times of the ancient imperial city of Hue. Hue was an important cultural, political, economic, and educational centre during the Nguyen dynasty. Here, we can see fully intact palaces, complexes, tombs, and mandarins. An interesting fact is that all the architecture is inspired by the Forbidden City in Beijing, yet it carries its own spirit. Beyond the majestic stone gates adorned with finely crafted mandarins standing guard, we will be surprised by the Palace of the 13 Nguyen Kings with the Ngo Mon gate, a library, the Thai Hoa Palace, the Nine Dynastic Urns, exquisite doors and arches allowing sunlight to animate the dark statues into different vibrant colours. The stone pools with lotuses, surrounded by bonsai, will bring us coolness amidst viewing the imposing architecture steeped in history. Check-in at the hotel in Hue, dinner, and free time.

Food: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Transport: Bus, 3:30 hrs

Day 6

Hue – Phong Nha Cave and Ke Bang National Park

Our day will be dynamic once again, but this time we will distance ourselves from the marks of civilization and immerse ourselves in the mystery of nature. The first place that will take our breath away is the Phong Nha water cave, which we will reach after a short boat ride. Phong Nha is a paradise for adventurers. Millions of years of flooding have carved the largest caves in the world, meandering rivers intertwine ancient karsts, and jungle-covered mountains provide an otherworldly atmosphere. We will admire the majestic rock formations, given names like 'The Lion', 'Fairy Caves', 'Royal Court', and 'Buddha'. Although it's an interesting place for tourists, the Kе Bang National Park is still underdeveloped, and we're lucky to come now to indulge in the virgin nature. If we wish, we can trust the local experts to lead us along hidden paths known only to a few. It's wise to consider our footwear and clothing because we might get wet, but the most beautiful routes cross rivers and streams. Next is lunch in the village and a return to Hue, where everyone can independently explore this city.

Food: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Transport: bus, 3 hrs each way

Day 7

Hue - Da Nang

We set off towards Da Nang, stopping along the way to visit the extraordinarily beautiful Khai Dinh Tomb, built for the twelfth emperor of the Nguyen dynasty. The tomb impresses with its remarkable architecture, with its position fully aligned with feng shui tradition, and the honour guard of stone bodyguards, mandarins, elephants, and horses are carved to life-size, exactly resembling real people and animals. The 127 steps will take us to the forecourt of the mausoleum, where the octagonal pavilion stands, marking fragments from the life and achievements of Khai Dinh.

We continue to Da Nang for lunch and check-in at the hotel.

Our rest will be brief, as we soon set out towards the Marble Mountains. The five mountains are named after the five elements: Kim, Tui, Moc, Hoa, and To. There, we will discover various attractions, such as the Linh Ung Pagoda – one of the three Linh Ung Pagodas in Da Nang, the Xa Loi Tower, and the stunning natural caves like Tang Chon Cave, filled with shrines and spiritual images.

After the mysterious mountains, we are awaited by the Son Tra Peninsula, where the Linh Ung Pagoda is located. The highlight here is the statue of Lady Buddha with an impressive height of 67 meters. It was erected to protect local fishermen from strong waves and winds. From the height of the pagoda, a captivating panoramic view of Da Nang can be seen.

We descend to the city to be impressed by the famous bridges of Da Nang. The Dragon Bridge is named for its shape, built as a bridge over the Han River, which flows into the East Sea. It is the only swing bridge in Vietnam. We will also cross the Love Lock Bridge, where couples come to pledge eternal love. Those who wish can, in their free time in the evening, head to the pier, board a boat, and watch the light show along the river, accompanied by fireworks and real fire emanating from the dragon's enormous maw.

Our last stop of the day is the covered market. There, we will immerse ourselves in the life of the locals. Street food enthusiasts will have the opportunity to try peculiar specialities from the vendors' carts or directly on the floor, where nimble Vietnamese women prepare unusual dishes. Ladies can order a traditional Ao Dai (áo dài) to be tailored for them. This is the most beautiful female garment in these parts, consisting of two parts – a long, tightly fitted dress with slits up to the waist, worn over trousers made of plain fabric. You will find whole rows of tailors on the second floor of the market. It is there that you will be measured, choose your fabric, and the finished Ao Dai can be delivered straight to your hotel the very next day.

Those who are not tired from the long day may take a stroll along the coastal promenade and enjoy fish, langoustines, lobsters, and all sorts of other seafood, choosing the specimens yourself from the aquariums they swim in.

Fans of Asian massages can relax in the hands of an experienced Vietnamese masseuse in one of the many nearby studios.

Food: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Transport: bus, 3:30 hours

Day 8

Da Nang – Sunworld Ba Na Hills

Today is going to be an exciting day once again. We'll embark on an adventure crafted by human hands, sprinkled with a touch of romance and magic at Sun World Ba Na Hills, an enchanting outdoor entertainment world on its own. The cable car, one of the world's 10 most impressive cable car systems, will take us up to 1487 meters above sea level, to the highest point of Ba Na Mountain, where we’ll be welcomed by its breathtaking views. Some have seen photos of a bridge high in the sky, held by two outstretched hands – the Golden Bridge (Cau Vang). That’s the place, and we'll be right there. After walking across this legendary bridge and soaking in the stunning views from above, we'll dive into the park's atmosphere, either together or individually. A main highlight is the Bana-Linh Ung Pagoda, whose name means “miraculously fulfilled wishes” in Sino-Vietnamese, standing out with its exquisite architectural design. The pagoda is symbolized by a 30-meter tall Buddha statue exposed to the elements. The magnificent Jardin D’Amour Gardens will leave us breathless. After a short break for lunch in the French Village, the architecture will take us back to Europe, transporting us to a cobblestone square with a fountain in Provence or amidst the classic streets with typical buildings of a French town. Anyone wanting to leave stress behind can join in the myriad games in Fantasy Park. In your free time, you’ll be drawn to various other attractions – the Wax Museum, funicular, Alpine coaster park, Da Cham souvenir shops, Crystal World, Stele Hall, Holy Mother Shrine, Rain Sheltering Teahouse, Linh Phong Zen Monastery, Linh Phong Stupa, Linh Tu Pagoda of the Holy Mother Mountain, the bell tower, Debay Bar – wine cellar, Beer Plaza, Debay Wine Cellar, Doumer Restaurant. In the late afternoon, we gather and head back to the city.

Food: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus, 1:30 hours each way

Day 9

Da Nang - Saigon (Ho Chi Minh)

We head south to Sài Gòn. A short flight will take us to the capital of the Republic of Vietnam. Since the initial Vietnamese settlement, the unofficial name Sài Gòn has remained in everyday speech; aside from official matters, this is still the most common way to refer to the city in Vietnam, despite the official name change following the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. The city was renamed Ho Chi Minh City in honour of the revolutionary leader who declared independence. Although it lacks a long history like Hanoi and Hue, and is not the capital, Saigon is the main economic and financial centre of Vietnam.

We settle into a hotel and have the entire afternoon to explore the city. In the evening, we'll immerse ourselves in Saigon's nightlife while enjoying a typical Vietnamese dinner aboard a traditional boat as we sail along the river.

Food: breakfast, dinner

Transport: bus, plane, bus 1 hr.

Day 10

Saigon – Cu Chi Tunnels - Phan Thiet - Mui Ne

After breakfast, we will embark on a morning journey to the Cu Chi tunnels to discover the guerrilla area and visit the underground tunnels.

The Củ Chi tunnels are a vast network of connecting tunnels located in the Củ Chi district of Sài Gòn (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam, and are part of a larger network of tunnels that underpinned much of the country. They played a crucial role during military operations, including as a base for communist attacks against nearby Saigon. They were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War and a base of operations for the Viet Cong during the Tết Offensive in 1968. The tunnels were used by Viet Cong soldiers as hiding spots during combat, as well as supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon storage, and living quarters for entire underground villages. Those without claustrophobia and with the courage can enter some of the tunnels with a guide under strict safety regulations. The whole area was littered with various traps aimed at deceiving American soldiers, and even today, some can still be seen—punji stake traps made from bamboo or metal rods, a camouflaged jungle bottom trap practically undetectable. Today, the tunnel complex at Củ Chi is preserved by the Vietnamese government and turned into a war memorial park stretching 75 miles. After all the feelings this world will evoke in us, we'll relax in the garden, and those who wish can fire an AK47 or MK16 at static targets at the outdoor shooting range.

Lunch, departure to Phan Thiet and accommodation in Mũi Né. This is a coastal fishing town turned into a resort destination, along with others, forming a tourist territory with over 50 km of beach line. Mũi Né is famous for its unique white sand dunes, inhabited by the iguana, known in Vietnamese as dong, featuring several lakes and even swamps right in the middle of the sandy landscape. We highly recommend trying the local cuisine, ranging from iguana specialties cooked seven ways, spit-roast young crocodile, to the most exotic crustaceans, shellfish, and fish caught daily.

Food: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Transport: bus for 5 hours

Day 11

Free Day

A day at leisure for beach time or exploring the surroundings. You can rent a bicycle/scooter or simply take a stroll.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 12

Mui Ne - Da Lat

We continue to discover the beauty of nature. It may seem odd, but just 50 km from Mui Ne lie the white sand dunes (Đồi Cát Trắng). This is one of the few desert areas in Southeast Asia, formed by ancient iron mines that have existed for hundreds of years. Here, we can't expect to see camels, but instead, we'll be surprised by the sight of shepherds grazing cows among the sandy expanses. If we take a walk, we'll come across the most impressive part of the area – a small lagoon covered with lotus flowers. By the lake, there is also a small pine forest, offering cool breezes even in the hot Asian desert.

The next stop is the red sand dunes (Đồi Hồng). To reach them, we need to walk along the bottom of the enchanting sources (Fairy Springs). Every wet step, sometimes ankle-deep, and at other times knee-deep, is worth it for the breathtaking view of high dunes in carmine hues and caverns like those in a film set of the Grand Canyon.

After lunch, we continue towards Da Lat – the capital of Lam Dong Province, Vietnam. Da Lat is the city of flowers and newlyweds, with lovely French villas, clean air, beautiful waterfalls, and magnificent lakes, located in a lush and green valley with postcard-like beauty. Situated 1500 m above sea level and covered with green pine forests, one can experience all four seasons in a single day here. The fog covering the valleys almost all year long lends it the name 'City of Eternal Spring'. Another name for Da Lat is 'Le Petit Paris' (Little Paris), from when it was still under French control, as French officials wanted to create this city as the ideal resort town, a significant educational center for their life in Indochina, a place far from their homeland – France. And so, Da Lat was the capital of the Federation of Indochina during World War II.

Hotel accommodation and free time.

Food: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus 4 hrs.

Day 13

Pongour - Elephant Waterfall

No matter how many waterfalls a person has seen, they cannot remain indifferent to the force of falling water. This day again promises to be wet as we will see the most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam, starting with Pongour waterfall, also known as Nam Thien De Nhat waterfall. This is a cascade of seven levels about 50 km south of the centre of Da Lat city. The waterfall is 40m high and flows over seven layers of rocks, with the water splitting into hundreds of fine lines of white foam.

After lunch in the Duc Trong area, we will pass through the Ta Nung pass, connecting famous rural routes: the colourful village of Van Thanh, a silk weaving factory, a coffee planting and processing farm, and the picturesque Elephant Waterfall. With a height of 30m and a width of 15m, Elephant Waterfall is the third largest waterfall in Lam Dong province. Viewed from afar, the waterfall falls like a white silk ribbon, looking majestic and beautiful. There is a "secret" path through the rocks that will lead us under the waterfall if we want to get a bit wet and the weather permits.

Further along, the landscape by the roads is very beautiful, with a serene atmosphere and many attractive destinations, winding roads, colourful farms of all kinds, and green pine forests. Speaking of coffee processing, we will have the opportunity to try different types, including the famous civet coffee, which has passed through the digestive system of a civet, prepared for us at the Me Linh Coffee farm.

We return to Da Lat for rest because tomorrow we are set to explore the Little Paris itself.

Meals: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus 3 hours

Day 14

The Secrets of Da Lat

We start our day with breakfast and kick off the flower tour to uncover the city's most special spots and the natural wonders around. Our first destination is Golden Valley, captivating with Earth's beauty. We then move on to Mong Mo Hill (Dream hill) to revel in the picturesque scenery. There we find the Golden Waterfall, cascading 10 meters down a rocky stream, the ancient Vietnamese house about 300 years old, the poet Han Mac Tu's gardens adorned with flowers and ornamental trees, and the wooden table engraved with the host's poetry, alongside various other markers of the locals' reverence for Vietnamese culture and education.

Our next stop is a village where traditional embroidery is crafted according to ancient customs. This craft appeared in Van Lam village in the 13th century during the Tran dynasty. There is an ancient temple at the village gate dedicated to the founder of the local embroidery trade. We'll be able to witness the entire process, and maybe even join in.

As we continue on our journey, we'll keep discovering different types of flowers renowned throughout Vietnam, after which we'll visit the pagoda of the Truc Lam Meditation Monastery and immerse ourselves in the breathtaking nature around, viewed from the height of the cable car that will take us to the top. The Truc Lam Monastery is the operational center of the Buddhist Research Institute in Edmonton and had its humble beginnings in 1989. It is the largest Vietnamese Zen monastery, located on Mount Phuong Hoang. The meditation hall of the Truc Lam Zen Monastery was founded by the monk Thich Thanh Tu and served as his main residence.

Continuing our exploration of the region's secrets, we visit the Biệt thự Hằng Nga Crazy House – an unconventional building designed and constructed by a Vietnamese architect inspired by the great Antoni Gaudí. The overall design of the building resembles a gigantic tree, featuring sculptural design elements representing natural forms like animals, mushrooms, spiderwebs, and caves, easily reminiscent of Salvador Dali and Walt Disney.

With excitement and reflection brought about by the whimsical Crazy House, we head to Bao Dai Palace – the summer palace of King Bao Dai's dynasty, built for the king and his family to escape the summer heat. Here, beyond strolling through the arranged gardens, we'll have a chance to discover the life of the royal family through 25 rooms and their amenities. Each room reflects the characteristics and status of its owner: the eldest son's room is painted yellow, considered luxurious at the time, and the queen's room is easily recognized by the delicacy of its interior.

Return to Da Lat.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Transport: Bus, 1:30 hrs.

Day 15

Dalat – Saigon City

We've reached the final stages of our Vietnamese adventure. After breakfast, we set off for Sài Gòn. We check into the hotel and still have time to visit the War Museum – the most famous historical museum in Vietnam associated with the Vietnam War, and the Notre Dame Church – dating back to 1962, it is one of only four basilicas in Vietnam, making it particularly important to the Catholic community in the country. A final immersion into local life at the Ben Thanh market, where during the day a variety of goods are sold, but after sunset, it becomes a cultural hub and is one of the symbols of the most dynamic city in Vietnam.
