Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Off we go to Vietnam

Flight Sofia – Istanbul – Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Greeting from our partners and transfer to the hotel. Transfer, accommodation, free time, overnight stay.

Breakfast, transfer, flight Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang.

Day 2

Da Nang - Hoi An

After our welcome at Da Nang airport and a lunch in a traditional local restaurant, we take a short journey to Hoi An to check into our hotel. A brief rest and without wasting any time, we begin our Vietnamese adventure amidst a seven-hectare coconut forest. We'll immerse ourselves in the countryside's beauty, floating in woven bamboo basket boats, where we can learn to catch fish and crabs alongside local fishermen and weave toys from coconut palm leaves. For those craving more adrenaline, we can set up a race with the boats we're in.

Hardly catching our breath, we return to Hoi An to uncover the evening secrets of this ancient port town, which UNESCO has declared a World Heritage site. The narrow streets of the old town will take us back to the memory of Vietnam from times gone by, peeking into ancient homes and courtyards of the locals, going past the vibrant artisan shops, stalls and the bustling night market, until we reach the symbol of Hoi An - the covered Japanese bridge. To forever capture the memory of the city that has remained nearly untouched for centuries, we can opt to board the characteristic small gondola-style boats to enjoy the nightlife and the illuminated façades from the Thu Bon river, and release paper lanterns with wishes, in the spirit of local traditions. Those who love good food can experiment with something straight from a street cart or sit in one of the riverside restaurants and indulge in the subdued buzz of evening Hoi An.

Meals: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus, 1.30 hrs

Day 3

Island Cham

Today, after breakfast, an authentic adventure awaits us. On the way to Cua Dai port, we will stop to acquaint ourselves with the artisans crafting statues in all sorts of forms and objects from huge marble blocks. After this brief detour, we arrive at the pier, where we board high-speed boats to ride the waves toward an archipelago of seven islands, each named according to their shape or characteristics. They are called Lao (pear), Dai (long), La (leaf), Kho (dry), Tai (ear), Mo (tomb), and Nom (East wind). Our destination is Cu Lao Cham, where around three thousand people live along its shores. We land on Lang beach and set off to explore intriguing spots like the storm shelter for boats, the ancient Tay Tang pagoda, and the Ong temple. We will pass through stunning natural vistas to reach Huong Beach, where we relish the crystal-clear waters, can dive, and explore the vibrant fish and colorful corals of the nearby coral reef. Those who prefer can simply unwind on the white sands and indulge in a lazy nap. Lunch will follow local seafood traditions. Fed and somewhat spent from the sights, feelings, and swimming, we head back to Hoi An.

Food: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus, 1:00 hr each way

Day 4

Pottery Village Thanh Ha and the Sacred Land My Son

Our day once again starts on the water. We travel by boat to the traditional pottery village of Thanh Ha. We'll let ourselves be enchanted by its winding paths and charming pottery exhibition area. Skilled artisans will immerse us in the craft of making vases, jugs, and plates, drawing on five centuries of tradition. Anyone interested can join the process and create their own item with a unique design from the brown clay sourced from the Thu Bon River.

We wash the clay off our hands and are already in the next boat, which will take us to the sacred lands of the glorious Champa civilisation, specifically to its capital and religious centre - the My Son Sanctuary, under UNESCO's protection. We will stroll among the red stones of historical and cultural ruins, witnesses of long-abandoned towers and shrines, dating from the 7th to the 13th century, located in a narrow valley surrounded by springs, mountains, and dense green jungle. The ruins of My Son may not be as grand and impressive as those of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, but thanks to their location and fewer visitors, they create an atmosphere of mystery. After a late lunch at a local restaurant, we return to Hoi An, where in our free time we can watch the sunset and take a solo walk through the picturesque streets of the old town.

Food: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus, 2:00 hrs

Day 5

Hoi An - Hue

This morning, we set off northwards to the only fully preserved capital in central Vietnam. Our journey will take us over the Hai Van mountain pass, approximately 21 km long. This is the natural boundary between Thua Thien-Hue province and Da Nang city, and one of the most picturesque hillside roads in Vietnam. We'll stop for a break at Lang Co beach, with its white sandy stretch of over 10 km and blue sea waters, a perfect spot to relax and take photos. We will pause at the Thien Mu pagoda, or the Pagoda of the Heavenly Fairy – one of the most beautiful and timeless pagodas that will captivate us with its stunning architectural structures for worship. After lunch, it's time to immerse ourselves in the bygone eras of the ancient imperial city of Hue. Hue was an important cultural, political, economic, and educational centre during the Nguyen dynasty. Here alone can we witness perfectly preserved palaces, complexes, tombs, and mandarins. An interesting fact is that all the architecture is inspired by the Forbidden City in Beijing while having its own unique spirit. Beyond the majestic stone gates adorned with finely crafted mandarins standing guard, we will be surprised by the palace of the 13 Nguyen kings with the Ngo Mon gate, library, Thai Hoa Palace, the nine dynastic urns, exquisite doors and arches that allow the sunlight to bring the dark statues to life in various bright colours. Stone pools with lotus flowers, bordered by bonsai, will offer us a refreshing retreat amidst exploring the imposing, history-soaked architecture. Check-in at the hotel in Hue, dinner, free time.

Food: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Transport: bus, 3:30 hrs

Day 6

Hue – Phong Nha Cave and Ke Bang National Park

Our day will once again be dynamic, but this time we will step away from the marks of civilization and immerse ourselves in the mystery of nature. The first place that will take our breath away is the Phong Nha water cave, which we will reach after a short boat ride. Phong Nha is a paradise for adventurers. Millions of years of flooding have carved out the largest caves in the world, winding rivers intertwine ancient karsts, and jungle-clad mountains add an unearthly atmosphere. We will admire the majestic rock formations, named 'The Lion,' 'The Fairy Caves,' 'The Royal Court,' and 'Buddha.' Though an interesting spot for tourists, the Ke Bang National Park is still underdeveloped, and we are lucky to come at just the right time to indulge in pristine nature. If we wish, we can trust local experts to lead us along hidden paths unknown to other travellers. It's wise to consider our footwear and clothing, as we might get wet, but the most beautiful routes pass through rivers and streams. Next comes lunch in the village and a return to Hue, where everyone can independently explore the city.

Food: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Transport: bus, 3 hours each way

Day 7

Hue - Da Nang

We set off for Da Nang, with a stop at the exceptionally beautiful Khai Dinh tomb, built for the twelfth emperor of the Nguyen dynasty. The tomb is striking with its remarkable architecture, with the positioning fully aligned with feng shui tradition, and the honour guard of stone bodyguards, mandarins, elephants and horses carved to life-size, just like real people and animals. The 127 steps will lead us to the forecourt of the mausoleum, where the octagonal pavilion stands, marking fragments of Khai Dinh's life and achievements.

We continue to Da Nang for lunch and check into the hotel.

Our rest will be short, because soon we venture to the Marble Mountains. The five mountains are named after the five elements: Kim, Tui, Moc, Hoa, and Tho. There we will discover various attractions, such as the Linh Ung Pagoda – one of the three Linh Ung pagodas in Da Nang, the Xa Loi Tower, and the stunning natural caves like Tang Chon Cave, filled with shrines and spiritual images.

After the enigmatic mountains, we are greeted by Son Tra Peninsula, where the Linh Ung Pagoda is located. The highlight here is the Lady Buddha statue with an impressive height of 67 meters. It was erected to protect the local fishermen from strong waves and winds. From the height of the pagoda, a captivating panoramic view of the entire Da Nang is revealed.

We descend to the city to be impressed by the famous bridges of Da Nang. The Dragon Bridge is named after its form, which is built over the Han River flowing into the East Sea. It is the only swinging bridge in Vietnam. We will also cross the Love Lock Bridge, where couples come to pledge their eternal love. Those who wish could in their free evening time head down to the pier, hop on a boat and watch the light show along the river, accompanied by fireworks and real fire emerging from the dragon's enormous mouth.

Our last stop for the day is the covered market. There, we will immerse ourselves in the life of the locals. Street food lovers will have the opportunity to try quirky specialties from the traders' carts or directly on the floor, where nimble Vietnamese women prepare unusual things. Ladies can order a traditional Ao Dai (ao dai) to be tailored. This is the most beautiful women's clothing in these parts, consisting of two parts – a long, tightly-fitted dress with slits up to the waist, under which is a pair of trousers made from one-colour fabric. You will find entire rows of seamstresses on the second floor of the market. That's where your measurements will be taken, your fabric chosen, and the finished ao dai can be delivered straight to the hotel the next day.

Those who are not tired from the long day might stroll along the seaside promenade and feast on fish, langoustines, lobsters and various other seafood, selecting specimens straight from the aquariums in which they swim.

Aficionados of Asian massages can unwind in the hands of an experienced Vietnamese woman in one of the many studios nearby.

Food: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Transport: bus, 3:30 hrs

Day 8

Da Nang – Sunworld Ba Na Hills

Today, the day will once again be thrilling. We will embark on an adventure crafted by human hands, sprinkled with a touch of romance and magic amidst Sun World Ba Na Hills, a captivating entertainment world out in the open. The cable car, one of the top 10 most impressive cable car infrastructures in the world, will take us 1487 metres above sea level to the highest point of the Ba Na mountain, greeting us with its stunning views. Some have seen photographs of a bridge high in the sky, held by two outstretched hands – the Golden Bridge (Cau Vang). This is the place, and we will be right there. After a stroll along the legendary bridge and breathtaking views from above, we will immerse ourselves in the park's atmosphere, either together or individually. A main highlight is the Bana-Linh Ung Pagoda, whose name means "wishes fulfilled miraculously" in Chinese-Vietnamese, featuring a sophisticated architectural design. The pagoda is symbolised by a 30-metre tall Buddha statue, exposed to the elements. The magnificent Jardin D’Amour Gardens will leave us breathless. After a short lunch break in the French Village, the architecture will whisk us back to Europe, transporting us to Provence with its cobbled squares and fountains or along the classic streets of a typical French town. Anyone looking to leave stress behind can join in the many games at Fantasy Park. In your free time, you'll be drawn to various other attractions – the Wax Museum, funicular, alpine amusement park, Da Cham souvenir shops, Crystal World, Stele Hall, Holy Mother Shrine, Rain Sheltering Teahouse, Linh Phong Zen Monastery, Linh Phong Stupa, Linh Tu Pagoda of the Sacred Mountain’s mother, the bell tower, Bar Debay – wine cellar, Beer Plaza, Debay Wine Cellar, and Doumer restaurant. In the late afternoon, we gather and head back to the city.

Food: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus, 1 hour 30 minutes each way

Day 9

Da Nang - Saigon (Ho Chi Minh)

We head south to Sài Gòn. A short flight will take us to the capital of the Republic of Vietnam. From the time of the initial Vietnamese settlement, the unofficial name Sài Gòn has remained in everyday speech; aside from official matters, this is still the most common way to refer to the city in Vietnam, despite the official name change after the end of the Vietnam War in 1975. The city's name was changed to Ho Chi Minh City in honour of the revolutionary leader who declared independence. Although it doesn’t have a long history like Hanoi and Hue, nor is it the capital, Saigon is the main economic and financial center of Vietnam.

We settle into our hotel and have the entire afternoon to explore the city. In the evening, we'll immerse ourselves in the nightlife of Saigon while enjoying a typical Vietnamese dinner on board a traditional boat as we sail along the river.

Food: breakfast, dinner

Transport: bus, airplane, bus 1 hr

Day 10

Saigon – Cu Chi Tunnels - Phan Thiet - Mui Ne

After breakfast, we'll embark on a morning journey to the Cu Chi tunnels to explore the guerrilla areas and visit the underground passages.

The Cu Chi tunnels are an extensive network of connected tunnels located in the Cu Chi district of Sài Gòn city (Ho Chi Minh), Vietnam, and are part of a much larger tunnel network that spans a major part of the country. They played a pivotal role during combat operations, serving as a base for communist attacks against nearby Saigon. These tunnels were the site of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War and the operational base for the Viet Cong during the 1968 Tết Offensive. The Viet Cong soldiers used the tunnels as hideouts during battle, as well as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon storage, and living quarters designed to house entire underground villages. Those who are not claustrophobic and have the courage are welcome to enter some of the tunnels with a guide and under strict safety regulations. The entire area was once laced with various traps to confuse American soldiers, and today, we can still see some of them – punji stake traps made of bamboo or metal spikes, camouflaged jungle traps designed to be nearly invisible. Nowadays, the Cu Chi tunnel complex is preserved by the Vietnamese government and has been turned into a war memorial park spanning 75 miles. After all the emotions this world will stir in us, we will relax in the garden, and those interested can try firing an AK47 or MK16 at static targets at the open shooting range.

Lunch, depart for Phan Thiet, and settle in Mũi Né. This is a coastal fishing town turned resort destination, forming a tourist area with over 50 km of beach stretch. Mũi Né is renowned for its unique white sand dunes inhabited by the iguana, known in Vietnamese as dong, featuring several lakes and even swamps right in the middle of the sandy terrain. We highly recommend trying the local cuisine, ranging from specialty iguana dishes prepared in seven ways, to young crocodile barbecue, and the most exotic shellfish, clams, and fish caught during the day.

Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Transport: bus 5 hrs

Day 11

Free Day

A free day for beach time or exploring the surroundings. You can rent a bicycle/scooter or take a walk.

Food: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 12

Mui Ne - Da Lat

We continue to discover the beauty of nature. It's a bit strange, but just 50 km from Mui Ne lie the White Sand Dunes (Đồi Cát Trắng). This is one of the few desert areas in Southeast Asia, formed by ancient iron mines that have existed for centuries. You won't see camels here, but you might be surprised by the sight of herdsmen grazing cows amidst the sandy expanse. If you walk further, you'll stumble upon the most stunning part of the area – a small lagoon covered with lotus flowers. Next to the lake, there is a small pine forest that cools the wind even in the hot Asian desert.

Our next stop is the Red Sand Dunes (Đồi Hồng). To reach them, we'll need to walk, wading through the bottom of the enchanting Fairy Springs. Every wet step, sometimes ankle-deep, other times knee-deep, is worth the breathtaking view of tall carmine-coloured dunes and caverns reminiscent of a movie set for the Grand Canyon.

After lunch, we continue to Da Lat – the capital of Lam Dong Province, Vietnam. Da Lat is the city of flowers and newlyweds, with beautiful French villas, fresh air, stunning waterfalls, and magnificent lakes situated in a lush and green valley of postcard beauty. Located 1500 meters above sea level and surrounded by green pine forests, you can experience all four seasons in one day here. The mist that covers the valleys almost year-round gives it the name 'City of Eternal Spring'. Another name for Da Lat is 'Le Petit Paris' (Little Paris) from when it was still under French control; French officials wanted to create this city as the ideal resort town, a significant educational center for their life in Indochina, a place far from their homeland – France. Thus, Da Lat was the capital of the Federation of Indochina during the Second World War.

Check-in at the hotel and free time.

Food: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus 4 hours

Day 13

Pongour - Elephant Waterfall

No matter how many waterfalls one has seen, one cannot remain indifferent to the force of falling water. This day again promises to be wet, as we’ll witness Vietnam's most beautiful waterfalls, starting with Pongour waterfall, also known as Nam Thien De Nhat waterfall. This is a cascade of seven tiers about 50 km south of Da Lat city centre. The waterfall is 40 m high, flowing through seven layers of rock, with the water dividing into hundreds of small streams of white foam.

After lunch in Duc Trong area, we'll pass through the Ta Nung pass, connecting famous rural routes: the colourful village of Van Thanh, a silk weaving factory, a coffee plantation and processing farm, and the picturesque Elephant Waterfall. At 30m high and 15m wide, Elephant Waterfall is the third largest waterfall in Lam Dong province. From afar, it falls like a white silken strip, appearing majestic and beautiful. There’s a ‘secret’ path through the rocks that can take us under the waterfall if we're up for a bit of a soak and the weather is right.

Further on, the roadside landscapes are stunning, with a peaceful atmosphere and many attractive destinations, winding roads, colourful farms of all kinds, and lush pine forests. Speaking of coffee processing, we'll have the opportunity to try different types, including the famous civet coffee, which has passed through the digestive system of a civet, prepared for us at the Me Linh Coffee farm.

We return to Da Lat for a rest, as tomorrow we set out to explore Little Paris itself.

Food: breakfast, lunch

Transport: bus 3 hrs

Day 14

The Secrets of Da Lat

We have breakfast and kick off the flower tour to discover the city's most special spots and the surrounding natural wonders. Our first destination is Golden Valley, captivating with the beauty of the Earth. We continue to Mong Mo Hill (Dream Hill) to be awestruck by the picturesque scenery. There you'll find the Golden Waterfall, cascading 10 meters down a rocky stream, the ancient Vietnamese house about 300 years old, the gardens of poet Han Mac Tu adorned with flowers and decorative trees, and the wooden table with carved poetry from the host, along with various other markers of the locals' reverence for Vietnamese culture and education.

Next stop is a village where traditional embroidery is created according to ancient customs. The craft of embroidery emerged in Van Lam village in the 13th century during the Tran dynasty. In front of the village gate stands an ancient temple dedicated to the founder of the local embroidery craft. We can follow the entire process, and perhaps even take part in it.

Then, along the way, we'll continue to discover the diverse types of flowers known throughout Vietnam, followed by a visit to the meditation monastery pagoda Truc Lam, where we will immerse ourselves in the stunning surrounding nature from the height of the cable car that will take us to the top. The Truc Lam monastery is the operational headquarters for the Buddhist Research Institute in Edmonton and started with modest beginnings in 1989. It is the largest Vietnamese Zen monastery, located on Phuong Hoang Mountain. The Truc Lam Zen meditation hall was founded by monk Thich Thanh Tu and was his main residence.

We continue to uncover the secrets of the region with the Crazy House Biệt thự Hằng Nga (later named Crazy House) – a non-traditional building designed and built by a Vietnamese architect inspired by the great Antonio Gaudi. The overall design of the building resembles a giant tree, featuring sculptural design elements representing natural forms like animals, mushrooms, spider webs, and caves, which could easily remind us of Salvador Dali and Walt Disney.

With excitement and reflections sparked by the quirky Crazy House, we head to the Bao Dai Palace – the summer retreat of the king Bao Dai dynasty, designed for the king and his close ones to escape the summer heat. Here, aside from strolling through the orderly gardens, we'll have the chance to discover the life of the royal family through 25 rooms and their amenities. Each room reflects the characteristics and status of its owner: the room of the eldest son is painted yellow and was considered luxurious at that time, while the queen's room can easily be recognized by the gentleness of its interior.

Return to Da Lat.

Food: Breakfast, Lunch

Transport: Bus, 1:30 hrs

Day 15

Dalat – Saigon City

We've reached the end of our Vietnamese adventure. After breakfast, we head to Sài Gòn. We settle into the hotel and have time for the War Remnants Museum – the most famous history museum in Vietnam, connected to the Vietnam War, and Notre Dame Church – dating back to 1962, it's one of only four basilicas in Vietnam, making it particularly important to the Catholic community in the country. Lastly, a deep dive into local life at the Ben Thanh market, where various goods are sold during the day, and after sunset, it transforms into a cultural hub and is one of the symbols of the most dynamic city in Vietnam.
