Angel Falls: The tallest waterfall in the world How to see it up close

Angel Falls in Venezuela is the tallest waterfall in the world, hidden deep within the heart of the Amazon jungle. The journey there is a true adventure, uncovering the majesty of untouched nature.

There are places that seem like legends. Angel Falls in Venezuela is one of them—a waterfall that plunges in an endless freefall from almost a kilometre high, as if the sky opens up and begins to trickle down the rocks.

Standing at 979 metres tall, Angel Falls is the highest waterfall in the world—a wild, almost inaccessible marvel, hidden within the heart of the Amazon jungle.

What makes Angel Falls so magical?

This is not just a waterfall. It's a symbol of untouched nature, of the majesty of the world as it was before us. When the water breaks from the edge of the Auyán-tepui plateau and falls freely almost 1 km down, it transforms into mist, into a rainbow, into the song of the wind and water.

The view is so unreal it seems more like a dream than reality.

How to reach Angel Falls?

  • Flights to Canaima – the easiest way to start the adventure is to fly to the small village of Canaima in Canaima National Park.

  • Boat trip – from Canaima, you embark on a traditional canoe boat (curiara) and begin a journey up the rivers, through the dense jungle. The journey lasts several hours and is an adventure in itself.

  • Trek – after the boat ride, a short but magical trek through the forest awaits you, leading to the foot of the waterfall.

When is the best time to see Angel Falls?

The best time to visit is during the rainy season (June – November), when the waterfall is at its fullest strength. During the dry months (December – March), the water flow reduces significantly and may even dry up.

What to expect from the experience?

  • A true adventure – the journey is rugged but magical. You'll traverse rivers, navigate through dense jungle, and sleep under the stars in hammocks.

  • Solitude – there are no crowds here. It's just you, nature, and the feeling that you're at the end of the world.

  • Incredible views – the morning mist around the waterfall, evening sunsets over the tepuis, and bright stars at night.

How to prepare for the journey?

  • Wear quick-drying clothes – you will get wet.

  • Comfortable hiking boots – for the trek through the jungle.

  • Raincoat – moisture is everywhere.

  • Mosquito repellent – the jungle is teeming with life, including insects.

  • An open heart – Angel Falls is not a luxury adventure. It's a true, raw, moving experience.

Angel Falls – a meeting with nature's perfection

This is not a place to visit for a tick on a destination list. It's a place you choose when you want to feel the grandeur of nature in all its raw beauty. Standing at the foot of Angel Falls and watching the sky literally burst into a waterfall is a moment that stays with you forever.
