Morocco: A Journey That Starts Solo, But Never Ends That Way

What if the path you've always walked isn't the one that will take you where you truly want to be? What if the best stories don't start with a plan, but with an impulsive decision – with a 'why not?'.

What if the path you've always walked isn't the one that will take you to where you truly want to be? What if the best stories don't start with a plan, but with an impulsive decision – with a 'why not?'.

Imagine waking up not to an alarm, but to the first rays of a desert sun (a poetic way to put it, but it's true). That the day doesn't begin with the usual route to the office but with a stroll through the chaotic markets of Marrakesh. That there are no familiar faces around you, yet seven days later, you're laughing together as if you've known each other for years.

For some, Morocco is just a destination. For others, it’s an experience that redefines their idea of travel. Meet Plamen Petrov – a man who left with a suitcase and returned with stories he never expected to tell.

‘It all started with tequila and turned into something more’ – Plamen Petrov

What were your first impressions?

‘Even when I read the program, my gut feeling suggested I was diving into something different. I expected to meet people with a broader outlook and an adventurous spirit. And right from the first minutes of arriving at the villa, the merry tequila welcome shots and smiles confirmed I was in the right place.’

What was the most unexpected moment?

‘There were many moments, but the most unexpected? The burst tyres. Yes, car tyres! On the way back to our villa, not one but two went out with a bang. Any normal group would see that as a problem. Us? It turned into an impromptu party by the roadside – dancing, laughing, selfies and toastings. Who said incidents can't be fun?’

What did a day in Morocco look like for you?

‘We would start the morning with games – sometimes to get to know each other, sometimes just for laughter. Then a city tour, the souk, and sometimes a little getting lost (either by choice or not). The best part came in the evening – gatherings with the group, traditional dinners, and conversations that started with travel topics and ended with laughter until we cried. And if you think the desert is silent – wait until you see what happens when the right mix of people gather around a campfire.’

How did the group change from start to finish?

‘At first, everyone was different, each with their own story. In the end? The barriers fell. No 'strangers', no 'where are you from?', just a group of people who happened to be in the same place at the same time and made the moment unique.’

What would you say to someone who is still wondering?

‘My advice? Jump! Life isn't meant to be spent wondering and pondering. Jump!’

Now it's your turn.

Have you ever asked yourself ‘What if?’

What if meeting these new people could be the beginning of something greater? What if this very night in the desert changes how you see life? What if stepping out of your comfort zone isn't a risk but an opportunity?

Morocco will not give you all the answers. But it will ask you the right questions. And the only way to learn the answers is to go.

We will be in Morocco from 21 September to 1 October.
